One person has been killed, following an accident in which a tanker fell on a car, rendering the vehicle totally useless.
Daily Post reports that Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), on Sunday, September 25, said it received a distress alert, early morning, through the toll free emergency number of Lagos State 767/112 regarding a fallen truck at Ikorodu.
LASEMA Emergency Response Team’s preliminary report revealed that a speeding Mack Truck with registration number AGL 664 XG laden with 33,000 litre PMS belonging to Forte Oil, while trying to turn at the roundabout, fell on a Hyundai Saloon Car with registration number KJA 421 AH. The lone unidentified adult male in the car was killed.
Prompt arrival of security agencies including LASEMA ERT, Lagos State Fire Service, LASTMA, Civil Defense, FRSC and Nigeria Police, to the scene prevented the incident from escalting into a major disaster due to oil spillage and proximity to a filling station. The truck was lifted upright, while the dead body was extricated by the LASEMA with the use of light duty equipments and subsequently taken to Ikorodu General Hospital Mortuary.
The accidented vehicles were cleared off the road and handed to the Nigerian Police Force. LASEMA General Manager, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, said proper investigation would be carried out on cause of the accident by the relevant government agencies. He, however, advised motorists especially articulated truck drivers to avoid over speeding and also adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.
