The suspects were exposed while committing the dastardly act in one Alhaji Osilo’s house each time he was away, by the man's neighbour who felt the suspects would be bad influence to others.

The husband of one of the ladies, ogunwale Abiola Idowu, was said to have ignored reports about his wife's shameful conduct.

Patience Jonathan Here's why we all need Ex-First Lady's kind of friends

If your friends haven't been pumping millions of dollars into your life, it may just be time to change them
Former First Lady, Dame Patience Faka Jonathan, has got some bad ass, dope friends.

Buddies who made sure she received $15m as gifts in a span of 15 years.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), is coercing the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to prosecute Mrs. Jonathan over allegations that she stole $15m, ostensibly from State coffers while her husband, Goodluck Jonathan, was President.

Not so fast, SERAP.
But Mama Peace (as the former First Lady is fondly called) has said she can explain. Her friends have been looking out for her, she says.
“The funds in question were legitimate gifts from her friends and well-wishers over the last 15 years which she had been saving in order to utilise to upgrade family businesses and concerns which had been somewhat dormant by reasons of the long period of her husband service as a public officer in Nigeria”, the former First Lady said in a statement made available to Pulse.

The money came from friends so numerous, Mama Peace can’t even put names and faces to most of them.

“The gifts were given in small contributions by several persons, some of whom she cannot even now recall over this period of 15 years...sometimes in as small a gift as N250,000", the statement read.

If you were one of Mrs. Jonathan's friends; donating to her purse unconditionally, rest assured you've been forgotten. You are now history, to put it nicely.

How we hated breaking that to you!
“In order to preserve the value of these funds, which she did not require for any purpose at the time, she changed them into foreign exchange and kept them as cash for a long period in her home safe in Port Harcourt and Abuja”, the statement read some more.

Mrs. Jonathan’s $15m gift has long been the subject of intense debates and investigations by Law Enforcement. The first reaction from her team was that the money came from legitimate earnings.
Mrs. Jonathan sheds some more light on how the money made it from a safe in her family home to the banks.

“It was when the family home in Otuoke was burnt down by hoodlums under the instigation of political adversaries in 2010 that she began to think about banking these gifts, which had now grown to large sums in the United States dollars.
“In 2010 she therefore summoned one of her husband’s domestic aides, Waripamo-Owei Emmanuel Dudafa, to assist her in opening bank accounts into which the funds could be deposited.

“Unknown to her, the said Dudafa, in a bid to be discreet about the owner of the funds, decided to bank the funds in the names of companies owned by him.

“When she discovered this, she was constrained to continue with the names of the companies when she was advised that it did not make any difference as to the ownership of the funds since the director of the company would appoint her as sole signatory to the accounts in question.”

An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operative who spoke to Pulse on the basis of anonymity, said the anti-graft agency isn’t sold on Mrs. Jonathan’s story just yet.
“Her story doesn't add up. My brother, you went to school na! Does that make any sense to you?

"Recall that we’ve frozen the accounts opened by fronts for Mrs. Jonathan. We’ll make sure the money is returned to State coffers if we eventually establish that the money belongs to the State. If she now says her friends gave her the money in a 15 year span, that’s an average of $1m from a friend annually. Investigations are ongoing so I won’t disclose so much now”, said the EFCC operative who spoke to Pulse on the basis of anonymity because he hadn’t been authorized to comment on the subject.
Moral of the story: we all need new friends. Like yesterday.

Goodbye, old circle of friends, it was nice hanging out with y'all.

Is the EFCC unfairly targeting Patience Jonathan?»

Yes, it's a witch hunt
No, she should be prosecuted

Onome Uriemu shares how she got pregnant at 11 (photos)

This is a very touching story yet educative.
Uriemu Onome got pregnant while in primary school at the age of 11. She was rejected by her parents for the shame she has brought the family.

She moved in with her grandma who was not working in the village. She realized her mistake and took the bull by the horn. How did she survived the shame and what happened to the son.

Onome shared her amazing story on Facebook. Read below: “My story goes thus, sometime 20 years ago, I was naïve and influenced by peer pressure.

My dad was and is still a strict disciplinarian; mum on the other hand was a bit soft on us and let us has our way. She practically covered for and took sides with me especially (being her only daughter amongst 3 sons).

I got out of hand and starting moving with the wrong set of friends, got pregnant at age 11 (primary 5) and then my whole world crumbled. The harsh reality of life began to unfold as I had to drop out of school, I couldn’t sit for my First School Leaving Certificate Examination (FSLC).” Narrating what she went through during the agonizing moment Onome went further:

“People in my neighbourhood made mockery of me, my dad couldn’t bare it, so he sent me out of the house and I had to go to the village to live with my grandma. In order to survive and fend for myself (as grandma isn’t working) I had to summon courage and face my own devil. I knew I was the cause of my predicaments and didn’t put the blame on my mum or anyone. I started street hawking selling all sorts ranging from tapioca (kpokpo garri), roasted pork meat, roasted maggots, Madiga bread, sachet water etc.”

Like the prodigal son I the bible, Onome knew she put herself in her situation and tried to make it up: “Few months later I had my baby, saved some cash (through hawking) which I used to re-enroll for my FSLC, I passed with a “merit”. Still in the street hawking business, I saw myself through secondary school; I was determined to show my folks that I truly regretted my actions and is now a serious child.

Enrolled for WAEC cleared all my papers likewise my JAMB and then gained admission into the university.” When my dad saw how focused I had become, they took my child and I back, sent me off to the university and took care of my baby….. With determination she made it in life: To cut the long story short, I’m now a M.Ed holder from the University of Lagos state Akoka, a successful teacher and happily married by His grace.

My son is currently a 200 Level Law student. Strangers think he’s my younger brother because the age gap between us is so close, and he’s growing taller by the day.

My son is my life, he’s the reason I am where I am today as his presence into this world made me a responsible individual. He’s my victory story; he knows what I went through and is determined to make me a proud mum

#TeamUnion #Unstoppable”

Onome is happily married now.

Demolished shrine: Ogun Pastor recounts experience

A Pastor, Prince Adewale Fagbire, who was alleged to have been struck dumb and motionless when he invaded his community shrine at Ketu – Ayetoro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun state while pulling it down, has told The Nation that though the town’s traditionalists assaulted him with “charms and other fetish objects,” but was not “harmed” at all.
Fagbire, who is a Pastor at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Ayetoro area, said he actually entered the shrine, evacuated all the fetish items that were kept there and also took a position beside the entrance to it in quietness as instructed by God.
Prince Fagbire, son of the past Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Taiwo Fagbire, who joined his ancestors in 1981 after his 20year reign in the agrarian community, said his late father and monarch, used to take him to the said shrine occasionally when he was alive.
Narrating his experience to The Nation and a handful of reporters, at the Office of the Chairman, Ogun State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Tunde Akin – Akinsanya, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Fagbire said he elected to “remain calm and mute” during the assault and interrogation at the shrine by the traditionalists and some villagers.
Speaking in the presence of over a dozen of Christian leaders from CAN and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Ogun State, said God instructed him to stay calm and not utter a word at the shrine.
The father of two noted that his not talking or not uttering a word on the site of the shrine had nothing to with his being beaten with “charms and fetish objects” by the traditionalists as what they did had no physical or spiritual effects on him.
According to him, it was also not true as reported in some section of the media that the priests and custodians of the shrine upon the intervention of the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulaziz Adelakun, treated or healed him before he could regain his consciousness.
“I was conscious, physically and mentally sound, during and after the incident because God was already with me. I followed the instruction of the LORD to enter the shrine and packed all the items there away. I followed God’s instruction to be quiet aa instructed by God.
“God told me to go there (the shrine), create a scene, step aside and watch the film (the unfolding events). They struck me with charms and nothing happened to me. They know the truth, nobody treated me and I spoke when I got to the Palace of the Oba,” he said.
Our Correspondence gathered that although the traditionalists demanded N300,000 from a church in the community where Fagbire had once preached and also N200,000 from the pastor’s family to perform sacrifices to appease the gods for his alleged sacrilege but nothing was given to them eventually.
The church in the community incurred the wrath of the traditionalists and was attacked following the allegation that it instigated Prince Fagbire to carry out the alleged sacrilege on the shrine.

Customs officers open fire on 4 residents while chasing smuggler (photo)

– Four residents have been hit by stray bullets as customs officers chased smuggler in Lagos state

– Police public relations officer Dolapo Badmos, confirmed that there was a shooting incident in the area

– A community leader said no fewer than 10 residents had been allegedly killed in 2016 by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service

Customs officers have allegedly opened fire on some residents at Sycamore Junction, Ajara Topa area of Badagry, Lagos state.

It was gathered that stray bullets fired by the officers, who were attached to the federal operations unit, hit the four people that included a motorcycle rider, Alayoade Arewayo and one John Sonayo.

Arewayo survived and was rushed to a private hospital in Badagry, while Sonayo was said to have died in transit from the Badagry General Hospital to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

The other two, whose names could not be ascertained at press time, were reportedly taken to a hospital in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Punch reports that immediately the incident happened, the customs officers fled the scene. The customs officer then got reinforcements from a military barracks in the area to forestall a mob attack.

Arewayo, who sustained a gunshot injury in the leg, said he was returning from a church programme around 7.30pm on Saturday when he was hit by a stray bullet. He said: “I had a crusade programme at Marina, Ebute area on that day. I had left the place for home when it started raining.

I decided to call at a shop to buy noodles that I would take in the night. ”I had hardly dropped off my motorcycle, when I started hearing sporadic gunshots; people were running helter-skelter. I thought it was armed robbery. The people I wanted to buy noodles from had also taken to their heels. ”As I fled for dear life, I was hit by a bullet in the leg.

I fell and was assisted to a hospital by my friend that was with me. It was later I was told that four people were shot and one person later died.”

It was learned that the customs officers neither went to the community in their operational vehicle nor wore their uniforms as they were led by one Jude. A resident of the community, David Taiwo said he reported the incident at the Badagry police division about 8.30pm. Taiwo added that the divisional police officer assigned a policeman to visit the scene of the shooting.

He said: ”We discovered that the customs officers were from the federal operations unit in Ikeja; they were posted to Badagry. They were not in their operational vehicle and they didn’t wear their uniform. They came in a private car. They pursued a smuggler, who loaded about eight bags of rice.

”To effect arrest, they started shooting sporadically. Four innocent people were hit by bullets. One of them, John Sonayo, was taken to the Badagry General Hospital, but he was referred to LASUTH. It was on the way that he died.

The family members of the other victims took them to Cotonou for treatments. The victims were not smugglers.” Taiwo said the customs officers ran to Ibereko Barracks to get reinforcement against members of the community that had gathered to attack them.

A community leader said no fewer than 10 residents had been allegedly killed in 2016 by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, adding that the officers usually harassed residents. ”Sometimes, they move from house to house with the help of soldiers. They ransack houses and shops. People in Badagry now live in fear, ” he added.

Police public relations officer Dolapo Badmos confirmed that there was a shooting incident in the area, adding that the police had written the customs authorities for details.

She said: ”We have written to the customs authorities to furnish us with relevant facts that will aid our investigations into the matter.” The spokesperson for the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS), Jerry Attah said he has not been briefed on the incident. Attah said: ”But as a command, we don’t condone indiscipline and we don’t encourage our officers to shoot at harmless civilians. We will investigate the case.”

However, an official said those victims were smugglers, the customs service recovered two cars filled with smuggled rice from them. He said: ”What happened that day was that some customs officers, attached to Iyafi checkpoint, apprehended two unregistered Passat Station Wagon loaded with smuggled rice along Sycamore Hotel Road.

One of the vehicles was attacked by the smugglers en route to the customs office. ”Some of the customs officers fired several shots to secure their safety, thereby injuring two persons, while the two cars were forcefully released by the smugglers.

One of the injured persons was taken to the general hospital where he later died. The other person is responding to treatment in a hospital in Badagry.” Recently, Nigeria Customs seizeed N597.7bn bags of rice.

The NCS announced that it seized tonnes of bags of rice valued at about N597.7 billion between January and August 2016 even as the commodity’s price skyrockets.

4 UNILAG students arrested, jailed for CULTISM

– Four students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) were prosecuted for cultism

– A group of young men planned to breach public peace but were timely detained

– However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges

Four undergraduates of of University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Akoka were arrested on suspicion of their involvement in cultism. The arrest was conducted by the policemen from State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
The four were charged with two counts of conspiracy to breach public peace and being memebers of an unlawful secret society, known as Aloral Bucania.
All suspects, Raheem Yusuf, 21, Adedoyin Adeyemi Abraham,24, Olanrewaju Idowu, 36, and Safraini Oluyemi Peters, 24, pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to the police, the four accused persons had conspired to cause breach of public peace on August 4 at about 9.30am, at room 318, Biobaku Hall of UNILAG.

However, it’s unclear what exactly they were plannig to do. The prosecutor, Adebayo Oladele, informed the court that the offences are contrary to and punishable under sections 409 and 42(a)(b) of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011. Frequent criminal activity for cults include intimidating professors into giving high grades, including by burning their cars or briefly abducting their children.

The majority of confraternities, as of 2005, were engaged in a variety of money-making criminal activities, ranging from cybercrime to armed robbery and kidnapping.

Cult members may also get money from political figures, who wish to intimidate their opponents.
The exact death toll of confraternity activities is unclear.

One estimate in 2002 was that 250 people had been killed in campus cult-related murders in the previous decade, while the Exam Ethics Project lobby group estimated that 115 students and teachers had been killed between 1993 and 2003. However those figures pale into insignificance when compared with recent cult activities in Benin city, the Edo state capital in 2008 and 2009, with over 40 cult related deaths recorded monthly.
