Govt flags off independent power supply in 40 federal varsities

The Federal Government in conjunction with the German Energy Partnership Project on Thursday formally flagged off its independent power supply initiative to all the 40 federal universities in the country with the Ground-breaking ceremony of a 10-Mega Watts Solar Power Plant at the University of Ibadan.

Performing the ceremony on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Ajibode Extension location of the University of Ibadan, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, described the event as “an historic occasion in the life of the university and of our nation” adding that it is in line with the national energy policy.

“That the project is commencing at the University of Ibadan should not surprise anyone. This is where the story of University education in Nigeria started,” the minister stated. He added the fact that UI, with its huge staff and student population had necessitated a corresponding high energy requirement which is in the region of 6 to 8 Mega Watts.

Anwukah remarked that the Federal Government, in its bid to replicate the gesture to all the 40 federal universities in Nigeria, envisaged that the project should be achieved through the utilization of off-grid Independent Power Plants (IPPs) which falls under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.

He noted that “it was in this respect that the Federal Government, under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, recently launched the Energizing Education Programme Initiative (EEPI), a collaborative effort of the Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to ensure self-sufficiency in power to all the 40 Federal Universities in the country.”

The EEPI is aimed at providing reliable power supply which, in turn, will promote economic growth and sustainable development in our Universities, the Minister further clarified.

The minister said further: “This is why the Federal government, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), has committed itself to this project with the provision of Funds. It clearly attests to government’s commitment to supporting a robust educational system. The project, when completed, will also ensure the realization of the vision of the University of Ibadan in becoming a world-class University, in the sense that academic activities will be boosted, and ground-breaking researches can be conducted.

“For our universities to be highly rated in Africa and the world, we must have a good research infrastructure, and a provision of energy is very key in the process. The plant will also have the multiplier effect of providing electricity to neighbouring communities. Government is keenly interested in this project, and its timely completion and effective utilization will inform an extension of the project to other Universities. We shall, therefore, be monitoring the progress of the project. It is expected that the faculties of Science and technology and the Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law would take advantage of his project to enhance the capacity of their staff, while embarking on further research in renewable energy resources.”

Also speaking at the event, the German ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Bernard Schlagheck, assured that the project, which is a culmination of more than two years of negotiations involving the University of Ibadan, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the German Government, would be completed and ready for commissioning within the next six months.

In attendance at the ground-breaking ceremony were dignitaries including the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole who is also the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan; the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka; as well as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji Ajeogungunniso I

Lecturers blame governors for LAUTECH crisis

•SSANU urges Ooni, Alaafin to intervene

THE Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) yesterday blamed Oyo and Osun governors for the ownership crisis in the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

The union urged the Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo and other traditional rulers in the two states to join the governors in resolving the crisis.

SSANU expressed concern about the crisis, which is threatening the life and property of workers in the institution.

The union said it was unfortunate a university established years ago would degenerate into a crisis of statism.

SSANU’s National President Samson Ugwoke said in a statement that the governors and traditional rulers from the two states should intervene in the crisis and resolve it in the interest of workers and students.

In the statement by the association’s National Public Relations Officer (NPRO) Abdussobur Olayiwola Salaam in Abuja, Ugwoke said it was unfortunate the governors allowed the issue to degenerate.

He noted that they would not have allowed it to degenerate to the point where security of workers, students and the environment in which they operate was no longer guaranteed.

Ugboke added that ethnicity or statism was not expected to be an issue in a citadel of learning because the quality of a university is measured by the number of foreign and international workers and students.

The statement said: “The union had tarried a while before making any public statement or comment on the issue, in the simple confidence that the spirit of Yoruba unity and solidarity would have prevailed and sorted out the impasse.

“Unfortunately, our expectations have been dashed and we are now forced to intervene in this issue in the hope that our voice is heard and sanity is restored to the university.

“The concept of the ‘university’ is coined from the word – universal. Thus, a university, in its real and pristine sense, is a universal or international community with no national or ethnic borders. The quality of a university in this day and age is measured by the number of foreign and international staff and students it is able to attract.

“The fact that it was established and is being funded by a particular body or government (either state or federal), does not make the university a property of its financiers. It is in the concept of the “university”, that once a university is founded, it becomes a universal, global or international property. Thus, ethnicity has no place in the scheme of things in the university…

“SSANU decries this unfortunate development, which apart from jeopardising the lives of our members has put the university in a state of disrepute. We, therefore, call on governments of both states to initiate reconciliatory processes to resolve the problems.

“We urge traditional rulers and eminent royal fathers from both states to intervene in the crisis and resolve it in the interest of staff and students…”

The Number 1 Reason Why Women Cheat – A Must Read For All Nigerian Men

If you are a man and you have a wife or you are in a serious relationship, then I want you to invest the next 5-10 minutes of your time to read this article right now.

And here’s why…

According to a study conducted by condom manufacturer Durex in which 29,000 people in 36 countries were interviewed, Nigerian Women were considered to be the most unfaithful in the world!

As a Nigerian man, you might dismiss this survey study as untrue because we are a religious country with lots of morals.

However, Durex may not be far from the truth actually.

In a recent interview with The Nation Newspaper, A a Lagos based DNA expert, Mr Ayodele Adeniyi gave a shocking statistics that…

“3 Out Of 10 Nigerian Men Are Not Biological Fathers Of Their Children”

It means that, a lot of Nigerian women are now having extra marital affairs and cheating on their partners and spouses.

Not only that, women are better at hiding their infidelity and they are more likely to lie about it and less likely to get caught.

This should concern you, especially if you are married or in a strong relationship with your spouse right now.

What this means is that…

It is possible for your woman to engage in infidelity and cheat on you if care is not taken due to some reasons.

So, What Could Make Your Woman Cheat On You Under Your Nose Without You Finding Out?

There are various reasons why a woman will cheat on her man such as…

Being in a distant relationship with their partner
Lack of Money to make the relationship better
Lack Of Excitement or emotional connection
Revenge on the mans infidelity
Boredom and peer pressure etc

But there is one other major #1 reason why women cheat…

And even though it’s very obvious, most Nigerian Men don’t know it.

And strange enough, many women are very secretive and won’t tell you the REAL truth, because they don’t want to hurt you.

So What Exactly Is The #1 Reason Why Women Cheat?

The #1 unquestionable reason why so many women cheat on their partner is….

They Are Not Well Satisfied In Bed!

To give you an understand of what I mean, I want you to read these comment left by a woman on Linda Ikeji’s Gossip Blog Recently:

And here’s another one by a woman who is not getting satisfaction from her husband at home…

If you are a man, and you are unable to give your woman a deeply intense and soul piercing reaction in bed, like the picture below…
Then your woman will Be unsatisfied, and she will long for pleasure because she is not getting it from you.

If you do not satisfy your woman in bed because of a poor sex life, you might force her to cheating and someone else will do the work for you without your knowledge.

if you are unable to satisfy your woman, here’s the major causes of why you are unable to…

Number 1: Very Weak Or Soft Erection

If your erection suddenly get weak after few thrust, and you are unable to get erection strong enough to penetrate deep inside her.

Number 2: Low Energy And Low Stamina

That is when you find yourself getting extremely tired like a very old man halfway into love making with your woman and you are unable to continue.

Number 3: Decrease In Libido Or Sexual Desire

That is when your sex drive is VERY low and your urge to have sex with your woman is ZERO despite how attractive she is.

Number 4: You are a 1-Minute Man And Can’t Go More Than 1 Round

That is when you ejaculate too quickly within 1-5 minutes and you are unable to “wake up” your manhood to continue love making.

Number 5: Lack The Knowledge Of How To Satisfy A Woman In Bed

That is when you don’t even know how to “finger her brain” or have the skills to make her enjoy her time with you in bed.

Number 6: Have A Small Penis That Can’t Do The Job

That is when your penis is very small and makes women run away from you and even the one that stays can’t “feel” you inside her at all.

If you are a man and you are reading this article right now…

And you suffer from 1 or more of these problems I listed above, then today is the day you should do something about it.

I am going to walk you through how to fix them just like I did when I had these same problem myself.

The 4 Powerful Things You Have To Do If You Want To be Able To Give Your Woman BODY MELTING SEX That Will Get Her To Love You And Have Deep Respect For You

Number 1: You must Overcome PREMATURE EJACULATION

You need to know how to stay longer inside her when you are making love. If you do not do this, you will leave her very unsatisfied.

Luckily, I found a safe, natural supplement solution to this and I use this personally myself and it has helped me go from being a 1-minute man to lasting 40 minutes in bed with my madam.

If you want this natural supplement for yourself to cure premature ejaculation, tell me where to send you the details by clicking here

Number 2: You Need to Increase Your Energy And Stamina

Most men undergo a lot of stress as a result of their jobs, family issues and life generally.

There are exercises and specific foods you need to eat that will increase your energy and boost your stamina.

Number 3: You need To Boost Your Manhood

You need to know exactly what to do to boost the fullness of your manhood inside her and make her feel you deep inside.

And you can boost your manhood by getting this natural therapy

Number 4: You Need To Know Her Pleasure Zones

A woman has about 20 of these pleasure zones on her body and you need to know where they are and exactly how to touch touch and STIMULATE it to take her to pleasure heaven.

If you are a man, and you struggle from premature ejaculation, weak erection, poor sex life and you get a bad response from your spouse during love making Contact Us today by email Solutionboiz@gmail.com

I hope you’ve learnt something in today’s article.

Thanks for reading.

Bayelsa new varsity begins lectures January

Academic activities in the newly established University of Africa, Toru-Orua, Sagabama, would commence in January 2017.
The Bayelsa state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global Education Counseling Limited, Cyprus, to begin academic activities at the university.
A statement by Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seriake Dickson, said the Cyprus’s institution’s Director, Theo Theodorou, was present at the brief MoU-signing event held in Government House, Yenagoa.
Theodorou was quoted as lauding the initiative of Dickson, aimed at repositioning the educational sector adding that it was one of the best in the continent.
He said the establishment of University of Africa, the first of its kind in Nigeria, would discourage parents from sending their children abroad for studies.
He said: “I have seen over the years, thousands of Nigerians, sending their children abroad for studies. This idea must be stopped. Let us educate our children in Nigeria.”
Theodorou assured the government of the readiness of his organization to make the university one of the best in the world, saying that the necessary facilities would be put in place to achieve the feat.
He said that the School of Foundation Studies, an arm of the institution that would prepare the prospective students for various degrees, would start in January, 2017.

UNILORIN tackles delayed completion of programmes

The Postgraduate (PG) School, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has instituted additional mechanisms to check the challenge of students overstaying on their and doctorate programmes at the university.

The Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof Badmas Yusuf, said the university had introduced a prototype design and attendance register for PhD candidates.

He said the initiative was a measure to ensure that the programme is well planned and progress could be monitored.

Yusuf, however, said despite this, the Postgraduate School had discovered that many students do not graduate as scheduled.

This, he noted, had prompted the school to introduce a questionnaire, designed to monitor the progress of students on postgraduate programmes and identify challenges they may be facing in the course of their programmes.

The questionnaire was made available from September 14 at the postgraduate School and is due for submission by Friday.

Must Read. 6 Brilliant tips that will help you score 300 in JAMB CBT

As 2016 comes to a close, many students are preparing earnestly for the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations now known as the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The 2016 admissions were filled with confusion and controversy as the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu brought about various changes in the process, ranging from the cancellation of the Post UTME to the changing of the process of screening students by JAMB.

The 2017 UTME also has one major change already, there will be no sales of JAMB scratch cards which have been used for registration in the past years. JAMB registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede,, said this was to make it easier for those with financial problems to register. “Students will generate a PIN number for themselves from their phone or computers before registering for examinations,” he said.

Here are 6 tips to help students do very well in the JAMB Computer Based Test (CBT), examinations:

1. Download the practice software

Early preparation is key to doing very well in any area of life. The JAMB CBT is not an exception. Even though the registration has not begun, you can start practicing now. Since it will be the first experience some students will have with any computer based assessment, downloading the JAMB CBT practice software is one very important step to take. It looks something like this:

The practice software is easily available online and can be easily accessed via mobile phone or a computer. Candidates are encouraged to download and use for practice to get themselves very prepared for the examination.

2. Registration

Since the news broke that scratch cards will not be used for registration in 2017, many students have been worried as to the likely problems that might be attached to generating pins on their own. It is important for candidates that they keep in touch and up to date on news in connection with the registration process, so as not to miss out on any update. Most students start to fail once there are mistakes in their registration.

Ensure that you do not fall under this category. We will ensure that you are updated, as soon as there is any news from JAMB on the 2017 registration process, and how the pin can be generated.

3. Use the syllabus

Many students do not use the provided JAMB syllabus while preparing for the examinations and this is one reason why the questions might sometimes look strange. Each year, JAMB releases a complete syllabus to help students. It is important that you use this. Once you determine your subject combination, based on your intended course of study, you should download the syllabus and use it to guide your reading. It is important that you ensure you finish the entire syllabus, every single topic listed there should be studied thoroughly. The rest of the tips come in handy when you are set to write your examination:

4. Know your CBT screen

At this point, we assume that you have practiced sufficiently, using the practice software. Here is a sample of how the CBT screen looks normally, unless there are any upgrades in 2017, this is what you should expect

It is vital that you study the above image to get a good knowledge of the screen and how bet to navigate it.

5. Time management

Another vital issue is the issue of time. Usually there are 250 questions to be answered in 2hrs 45 mins, so you do not have a lot of time. It is important that you learn how to manage the time you are given. One way to do this is to divide the entire time you are given , so you know the amount of time to allot to each question. Move quickly, note that it is possible to click on omit and come back later to answer any especially difficult questions. Always keep your eye on the timers, to know how much time you have left.

6. Cross Check

It is important to avoid overconfidence. Overconfidence kills, so even after you have answered, you should go through your answers again. Be careful when doing this however as a slip of the mouse can cause you to change answers. Check that you have done all that is required before you click submit. All these tips are important for you to keep in mind. If you have any tips you think can be helpful, tell us in the comment box below this post.

4 UNILAG students arrested, jailed for CULTISM

– Four students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) were prosecuted for cultism

– A group of young men planned to breach public peace but were timely detained

– However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges

Four undergraduates of of University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Akoka were arrested on suspicion of their involvement in cultism. The arrest was conducted by the policemen from State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
The four were charged with two counts of conspiracy to breach public peace and being memebers of an unlawful secret society, known as Aloral Bucania.
All suspects, Raheem Yusuf, 21, Adedoyin Adeyemi Abraham,24, Olanrewaju Idowu, 36, and Safraini Oluyemi Peters, 24, pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to the police, the four accused persons had conspired to cause breach of public peace on August 4 at about 9.30am, at room 318, Biobaku Hall of UNILAG.

However, it’s unclear what exactly they were plannig to do. The prosecutor, Adebayo Oladele, informed the court that the offences are contrary to and punishable under sections 409 and 42(a)(b) of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011. Frequent criminal activity for cults include intimidating professors into giving high grades, including by burning their cars or briefly abducting their children.

The majority of confraternities, as of 2005, were engaged in a variety of money-making criminal activities, ranging from cybercrime to armed robbery and kidnapping.

Cult members may also get money from political figures, who wish to intimidate their opponents.
The exact death toll of confraternity activities is unclear.

One estimate in 2002 was that 250 people had been killed in campus cult-related murders in the previous decade, while the Exam Ethics Project lobby group estimated that 115 students and teachers had been killed between 1993 and 2003. However those figures pale into insignificance when compared with recent cult activities in Benin city, the Edo state capital in 2008 and 2009, with over 40 cult related deaths recorded monthly.

The university was the only one in Nigeria that made the list.
University of Ibadan is now among the best 1000 in the world

Prior to this time, no Nigerian university made the list of the best 1000 and the argument majorly was that the tertiary institutions in the country were lacking in quality research.

The University of Oxford topped the rankings in the 12-year history of the table.

“More specifically the institution’s total income and research income is rising faster than its staff numbers, its research is more influential, and it has been more successful at drawing in international talent.”

The report showed that two new Asian universities make the top 100 (Chinese University of Hong Kong and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

The City University of Hong Kong, University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University also joined the first 200.

MUST READ for all students: JAMB sets deadline for admission into varsities, poly, colleges

JAMB sets November 30 deadline for admission to schools

– JAMB registrar insists that post

– UTME will not be one of the requirements to offer candidates admission

– The professor informed that schools which are yet to update the requirements for the 2017 brochure should do so quickly

– He explained that the examination body is ready to listen to legit requests of stakeholders

Students seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria have been given a lifeline until Wednesday, November 30, 2016.

According to information obtained by Information Nigeria, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) stated on Friday, September 16, that all admissions to universities, polytechnics and colleges of education should end at the stipulated time.

Speaking at the University of Abuja, venue of an Extra-Ordinary Technical Committee Meeting on 2016 Admissions to First Choice Institutions, the JAMB boss noted that the board was ready to attend to authentic requests of everyone involved in ensuring the efficiency of the examination body.

“The First Technical Committee Meeting was held in Bayero University, Kano, from August 22 to August 26, where institutions were expected to make submissions for their first choice admissions to admissions’ panels at the technical sessions. “However, some institutions informed the meeting that they were not ready to make submissions as internal processes leading to the exercise had not been completed.

“The affected institutions requested for an earlier special date than the date for the Second Technical Committee Meeting scheduled for November 14 in Owerri, Imo State,”
he explained.

Speaking further, Professor Oloyede said: “I need to re-state my earlier submission that the senate and the academic boards of the institutions have the primary responsibility of recommending candidates to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for admissions. “JAMB will not initiate or insert any candidates but will, as expected, ensure that no candidate is unjustly treated by any institution.

“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is thus a referee for justice, equity and standards.”

While informing that other admission processes remain intact, the registrar explained that there should be no post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) test and that institutions which were yet to complete their requirements for the 2017 brochure to do so.

Recall that the admission process for universities this year has been fraught with several problems. From the banning of the normal post UTME process of admission, to the introduction of the admission screening method, among others. Students have had to jump through several hoops, but finally many have made their through the admission screening onto the admission lists.
